Portion Control Tools (Oxygen Magazine)

Hey ya’ll,

I picked up Oxygen Magazine last week.  There is an article in there about tools to help control portion sizes and I thought I would share them with you.

1. The SmartSpace Dispenser = dispenses an ounce at a time ($35, zevro.com)

2. PortionPal = illustrates the ideal serving size for meat, chicken, fish, grains, vegetables and even dessert ($18, portionpal.com)

3. EZ Weight Plate = helps measure those away-from-home meals ($17, ezweightplate.com)

4. A food scale.  I bought one of these from Bed, Bath, & Beyond ($50) and I use it every day.  I can’t imagine not having this tool in my kitchen.

Portion control is something I struggle with and I found the article interesting.  Does anyone have any of these products?

Don’t give up

A buddyslim friend sent me this and I want to share it with others:

Working out but gaining weight?

I have been working out pretty regularly for the last few weeks, but I have managed to put on 3 lbs this week alone.   So I started looking at why - I eat as a reward (whenever I do something I don’t want to do I eat) and I am ravenous after working out ( so I am eating more).  Agh! So frustrating.

On the bright side I do feel better after working out.  I have noticed an improvment in my flexibiltiy and strength.

I went to a Weight Watchers meeting last week.  I was not impressed with the program (focus on Points instead of proper nutrition).  However, I do need to track what I eat.  I thought I could get away with not tracking what I am eating.  I thought that if I exercised that I would automatically lose weight.  Well, I guess I am afraid of what I am actually eating.  Time to get real and start tracking/monitoring.

Mission Possible

Why do I want to lose weight?

*To fit comfortably in an airplane seat without hogging both armrests (actually applies to all seats).

*To buy fashionable clothes.

Why do I want to be healthy?

*So I can roam around the world (walk the Great Wall, swim in the Great Barrier, climb pyramids, etc).

*To avoid medication and side effects.

*Start a family.

Why do I want to change?

*I am tired of being tired (napping is a hobby).

What do I hope to accomplish?

*Healthy heart.

*Self-confidence.

*Toned body (no more granny arms).
